Laminating questions

What mil weight should I use?
For everyday documents and ID cards, 5 mil is the most common choice. Use 3 mil for flexible documents that need to fold. Use 7–10 mil for menus, outdoor signage, and anything that gets heavy handling.
What’s the difference between pouch and roll laminating?
Pouch laminating uses pre-cut sleeves — simple and great for under 50 items per day. Roll laminating uses continuous film and is faster and more cost-effective for high-volume work. See our Laminating Guide for a full comparison.
My laminated document is coming out with bubbles. What’s wrong?
Bubbles are usually caused by running the machine too fast, using the wrong temperature setting, or laminating a document with moisture in it. Try slowing the feed speed and increasing heat slightly. Call us at 800-437-4787 and we’ll walk you through it.
Can I laminate inkjet-printed documents?
Yes, but wait at least 24 hours after printing before laminating. Fresh inkjet ink can smear under heat. For very heat-sensitive prints, use cold laminating pouches instead.
What size pouch do I need for a standard letter document?
Use a 9 x 11.5 inch pouch for standard 8.5 x 11 paper. Your pouch should always be slightly larger than the document to ensure a complete seal. See our Pouch Size Chart for all sizes.

Binding questions

Which binding style is best for presentations?
Comb binding is the most common for presentations — easy to update and professional-looking. Wire binding gives a more premium finish. Coil binding is best when pages need to lay completely flat. See our Binding Guide for a full comparison.
What coil diameter do I need?
It depends on page count. For up to 55 pages use 6–10mm. For 56–120 pages use 12–16mm. For 121–250 pages use 18–28mm. Over 250 pages use 30–50mm. See our Binding Guide for the full chart.
Can I add pages to a comb-bound document after binding?
Yes — that’s one of the main advantages of comb binding. You can open the comb, add or remove pages, and close it again. Wire and coil binding are permanent once closed.
